How to be a client: Ensuring good outcomes.

How to be a client: Ensuring good outcomes.

In our quest for self-improvement and enhancement, many of us seek out services from professionals in areas such as plastic surgery, hair styling, and coloring. Whether it's to correct a perceived flaw, maintain our appearance, or express our personal style, these services offer transformative possibilities. However, it’s essential for clients to understand their role in these processes and to set realistic expectations.

  1. Take Responsibility for Outcomes

While professionals in the beauty and personal enhancement industry are trained and skilled at what they do, clients must take some responsibility for the outcomes. Here are a few ways to ensure that you play your part:

Research and Ask Questions: Before any procedure or service, research the processes involved, potential outcomes, risks, and aftercare required. Don't hesitate to ask your service provider questions.

Provide a Clear Brief: Don’t just sit in the chair and tell the technician to “do whatever you think would look good.” Ultimately, the opinion of the professional is only part of the equation. Be clear about what you want, but also be open to advice. Professionals can guide you based on their experience, but they’re not mind readers.

Aftercare is Essential: Many procedures, especially surgical ones, require specific aftercare for the best results. It’s your responsibility to adhere to these instructions.

  1. Setting Realistic Expectations

Just as a painter requires a canvas, personal enhancement professionals work with the unique attributes you bring. Setting unrealistic expectations can lead to disappointment, even if the service is performed flawlessly.

Understand Your Base: Recognize your starting point. For example, hair color results can vary based on your original hair color, texture, and history of treatments. Or, for example, turning back the clock 30 years all at once might be a bit of a stretch, uhem... so to speak.   It took a long time for that waddle and those nasolabial folds to develop.  They aren't going to clear up the day after a single procedure.

Maintain Open Communication: If you're unsure about the potential results, ask. Continuous dialogue can help adjust expectations and make sure both you and the professional are on the same page.

  1. Don’t Fear the “Fake” Look

There’s a common misconception that procedures like plastic surgery will automatically result in an artificial or "fake" appearance. But in reality:

Subtlety is Commonplace: Many people undergo enhancements without it being obvious. We often look at individuals who've had procedures without realizing it. Subtle changes can refresh and rejuvenate without drawing attention.

Express Your Desires: If you're worried about looking "overdone," communicate this to your service provider. They can adjust techniques to ensure more natural results.

  1. The Stigma and The Reality

While some stigmas surround certain procedures, especially plastic surgery, it's important to remember that everyone's journey to self-enhancement is personal. Opting for a procedure doesn't mean someone is vain or insecure. It can be an act of self-care, self-expression, or addressing medical needs.

Being a responsible client is as vital as selecting the right professional for personal enhancement services. By setting realistic expectations, maintaining open communication, and taking some responsibility for outcomes, we can ensure that our journey towards self-improvement is both fulfilling and rewarding. Remember, the aim is not to achieve perfection but to enhance the unique beauty each one of us possesses.

The Rabbit Hole

Bio and Beauty-centric topics for a modern world

“I know enough to know that I don’t know much but here is the stuff I know” MBM

Having spent around half of my life surrounded by nature and the other half immersed in the realm of health and beauty, I decided to choose these as my general discussion topics.  if I say something in this forum, it is because I have experienced it first-hand, and/or have done exhaustive research and deduction on the topic.  I don’t like to waste time so each blog will be short and immediately to the point.  Please email me with any questions at illumeninfo@illumenase.com
